When Korea gained membership of the OECD's Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and became the first and the only recipient country in the world to join the list of donor countries in 2009, the city of Busan took center stage as a city of international conventions and events. Beautiful beaches, Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), hot springs, a fish market, nature reserves are some other key words the city is renowned for.

Behind such modern achievements of the city, there is a precious historic legacy overlooked for a long time. It is a long forgotten space in the middle of the city where the past and the present peacefully coexist. The prosperous modern-day Busan ironically is built on this shabby part of the city.
